Islamabad / Manila — The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has announced a major financial commitment of USD 10 billion to Pakistan over the next five years, under a newly launched Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) extending through 2030.
The funding is aimed at accelerating Pakistan’s economic recovery and sustainable development across key sectors, including:
Energy — Improving power generation, transmission, and distribution infrastructure
Transport — Development of roads, railways, and logistics networks
Agriculture — Modernizing farming practices and irrigation systems
Food Security — Strengthening supply chains and nutrition programs
According to the ADB statement, the new Country Partnership Strategy reflects the bank’s long-term commitment to supporting Pakistan’s development goals, with a strong focus on climate resilience, private sector growth, and inclusive economic development.
The announcement has been welcomed by Pakistani government officials as a significant vote of confidence in the country’s reform agenda. Economic analysts, however, emphasize that effective utilization, transparent governance, and accountability will be critical to ensuring the funds deliver meaningful impact for ordinary citizens.
The ADB, headquartered in Manila, Philippines, is one of Pakistan’s largest multilateral development partners and has been supporting the country’s development for several decades.
