Security forces in Balochistan successfully thwarted a major terrorist attack on Saturday, recovering and defusing 8 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) planted beneath a bridge on the Quetta–Karachi Highway.
According to official sources, intelligence agencies received a tip-off that a critical bridge on the highway had been targeted by militants for a large-scale bombing. Acting swiftly on the information, security personnel cordoned off the area and launched an immediate search operation.
The Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was called to the scene, where its personnel located eight separately planted explosive devices concealed at various points under the bridge structure. All devices were successfully defused, averting what could have been a catastrophic attack.
“The timely intervention of security forces has prevented a disaster of enormous proportions. This highway is a lifeline for thousands of commuters and commercial vehicles every day.”
— Security Forces Spokesperson, Balochistan
The Quetta–Karachi Highway is one of Pakistan’s most strategically vital road corridors, connecting the provincial capital to the country’s largest city and main port. Authorities have significantly tightened security along the route, while investigations are underway to identify and apprehend those responsible for planting the explosives.
No casualties were reported. Senior officials have commended the security forces for their swift and professional response.
