ISLAMABAD / QUETTA, March 30, 2026 — The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has postponed the by-election scheduled for NA-256 Khuzdar following a request from the Balochistan government, which cited serious security concerns based on reports from sensitive intelligence agencies.
The Balochistan government had formally approached the ECP, requesting postponement of the polling after intelligence reports flagged significant security threats in the constituency. Acting on the request, the Election Commission has officially postponed the by-election and issued a formal notification to that effect.
The ECP has announced that a new election schedule for NA-256 Khuzdar will be issued at a later date.
Khuzdar, located in central Balochistan, has long been considered a sensitive district due to ongoing security challenges in the province. The postponement reflects the authorities’ cautious approach toward ensuring the safety of voters, polling staff and candidates before proceeding with the electoral process.
This is not the first time security concerns have led to the delay of electoral activities in Balochistan, where insurgency-related threats have periodically disrupted both general and by-elections in recent years.
