LAHORE: Inspector General of Police Punjab, Abdul Kareem, has announced a series of welfare and administrative initiatives aimed at supporting police personnel and the families of fallen officers, while also ordering immediate action in a separate deadly shooting incident in Okara.
Speaking at a ceremony held at the Central Police Office in Lahore, the provincial police chief distributed modern laptops to 41 children of police martyrs. Officials said the beneficiaries include students pursuing higher education in fields such as medicine, engineering, and information technology.
According to police authorities, a total of 308 laptops have been provided to children of fallen officers under welfare programs, with 106 distributed during the current year alone. Abdul Kareem emphasized that access to modern technology would significantly enhance students’ academic performance, professional growth, and skill development.
He reiterated the department’s commitment to the welfare of martyrs’ families, noting that scholarships are also being offered to support education at both national and international institutions.
During the event, the police chief extended his best wishes to the students for their academic success and future endeavors.
Separately, Abdul Kareem held meetings with serving and retired police personnel, as well as their families, at the Central Police Office. He personally heard their grievances and directed relevant officials to provide immediate relief.
Authorities said instructions were issued on multiple matters, including transfers, pensions, legal cases, subsistence allowances, and recruitment requests from families of martyrs. Additional directives were also given concerning disciplinary issues, administrative matters, promotions, and welfare cases.
In a separate development, the IG Punjab took notice of a fatal shooting in Shadman Colony, located in Okara district, where two sisters were killed and another injured after being shot by their brother.
The police chief sought a detailed report from regional authorities and instructed district police to ensure the immediate arrest of the suspect. Local police officials confirmed that investigation and forensic teams are on-site, while special units have been formed to apprehend the accused.
Authorities stated that efforts are underway to arrest the suspect at the earliest, as the investigation continues.
