Karachi (ARY News / Geo News, April 3, 2026) — Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Ameer Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has strongly condemned the federal government’s massive increase in petroleum prices, terming it a “petrol bomb” dropped on the public. He warned that if the hike is not immediately reversed, the party will call for nationwide sit-ins (dharna) and a complete wheel-jam strike.
Addressing a protest gathering, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman said the government is using the current situation as a cover to hide its incompetence and failures. He has directed JI workers across all four provinces to prepare for surrounding the Chief Ministers’ Houses.
“The brutal rise — petrol now at Rs458.41 per litre and diesel at Rs520.35 per litre — is unacceptable and will crush the common man, especially motorbike riders, students, daily wagers, and delivery personnel,” he said. He urged the youth to come out of their homes and raise their voices unitedly against this injustice.
Hafiz Naeem announced that a countrywide protest movement has begun today. If the government fails to provide relief, the party will escalate to full-scale agitation including wheel-jam strikes and prolonged sit-ins.
The JI chief accused the government of exploiting international oil price fluctuations to impose direct taxes on the people while concealing its own mismanagement and corruption.
This strong reaction comes just hours after the government notified a sharp increase of Rs137.23 in petrol and Rs184.49 in diesel prices, effective from midnight.
