Muzaffarabad: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and candidate for the Legislative Assembly of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (LA-35 Jammu-II), Aslam Nadar Solheri, has said that the brave, dignified and great women of Azad Kashmir have always played a pivotal role in the construction and development of the country — a contribution that history will never forget.
He made these remarks while addressing a delegation of women led by Shagufta Noreen Kazmi, General Secretary of the Pakistan Peoples Party Women Wing, during a meeting held at the PPP Secretariat in Muzaffarabad on Tuesday. Ms. Masrat Sheikh was also present on the occasion.
Solheri stated that the women of the PPP demonstrated extraordinary courage, steadfastness and valiant struggle during the dark eras of dictatorship. They faced oppression, tyranny, imprisonment and every kind of sacrifice with a smiling face for the restoration of democracy. These sacrifices, he added, have now become the capital of the party’s ongoing political struggle.
He emphasised that the Pakistan Peoples Party is not merely a political party but the centre of hope for the poor, labourers, downtrodden classes and oppressed masses. The role of women in strengthening the party is like the backbone. Even today, the women workers of the party are keeping the flag of PPP high through their spirit of service, loyalty and ideological commitment.
“Aslam Nadar Solheri said that without empowering women, the dream of progress cannot be fulfilled. A strong, prosperous and developed society can only emerge when women are provided equal opportunities in education, health, employment and decision-making,” he added.
He expressed his firm resolve to continue raising his voice on every forum for the protection of women’s rights, restoration of their honour and dignity, and resolution of their issues.
Paying rich tributes to the fearless and dignified women of the PPP, Solheri said these great women kept the lamp of hope burning even in the darkness of dictatorship and did not allow the journey of democracy to stop. He offered special homage to Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, describing her not just as a leader but as an era, an ideology and a timeless struggle.
“Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life to irrigate the tree of democracy and gave the message to the world that sacrifice in the path of truth and justice is the real success. Her courage, vision and love for the people are still alive in the hearts of PPP women, who are carrying forward the same mission,” he said.
Aslam Nadar Solheri expressed confidence that the struggle, sacrifices and spirit of public service shown by the women of the PPP will lead the party to a resounding victory in the upcoming elections and once again establish people’s rule, putting the country on the path of development, prosperity and stability.
