August 20, 2025 – Peshawar, Pakistan:
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has announced financial assistance for those affected by recent heavy rains and floods in the province. Families of deceased victims will receive PKR 2 million per person, while injured individuals will be granted PKR 500,000 each.
The decision was made during a KP cabinet meeting focused on supporting flood-affected communities. Under the initiative, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) will also provide PKR 15,000 per family through a food stamp scheme, with an initial fund allocation of PKR 1 billion.
In addition, the cabinet approved a special package of PKR 180.3 million for the families and injured personnel of police officers, as well as a dedicated package for crew members who died in a helicopter accident. Other allocations include PKR 62.3 million for religious conferences across the province and financial assistance of PKR 20 billion for infrastructure repair and development projects.
The cabinet also approved amendments to the KP Right to Public Service Act 2014 and allocated PKR 20 billion as a supplementary grant for development schemes. Financial support of PKR 20 million was sanctioned for the medical treatment of former MPA Shaukat Yousafzai.
These measures underscore the provincial government’s commitment to mitigating the impact of natural disasters, although experts stress the importance of long-term planning and climate adaptation strategies to reduce future risks.
