LAHORE (Media Desk) — April 08, 2026 — The Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists unanimously rejected the amendments to the PECA Act 2025 at a Journalists Convention held at the Lahore Press Club, declaring it a draconian law designed to silence journalists and severely curtail the independent role of the media.
PFUJ reminded the government of its earlier promise that PECA would not be used against journalists, condemning the blatant violation of that commitment in the strongest possible terms. A resolution passed at the convention demanded the immediate and unconditional withdrawal of all cases registered against journalists under the PECA law.
The union further called for a comprehensive review of the PECA Act to ensure it cannot be weaponized for political victimization. It also demanded the immediate clearance of all outstanding salaries and dues owed to journalists and media workers across the country. PFUJ warned that the prevailing climate of fear and intimidation is not only intolerable but poses a serious threat to Pakistan’s democratic fabric and constitutional freedoms.
