Pakistan’s federal capital Islamabad has been placed under unprecedented security lockdown as high-level delegations arrive for the landmark US-Iran peace negotiations scheduled for April 9 and 10. Multiple major roads have been closed and movement in the Red Zone has been completely restricted for ordinary citizens.
Traffic Diversions
The Expressway from Zero Point along Faisal Avenue to Korang Chowk has been closed in both directions. Commuters travelling from Peshawar to Rawalpindi have been directed to use the Taxila Motorway, Chakri, and Rawat routes as alternatives. Residents of Margalla Road sectors F-6, G-5, G-6, and G-7 heading towards Rawalpindi are advised to use Ninth Avenue, while all heavy traffic has been barred from entering Islamabad entirely for the duration of the talks.
Traffic police have also announced diversions for intercity heavy vehicles, directing Peshawar-to-Lahore trucks via the Taxila Motorway and Fateh Jang Motorway, and Lahore-to-Islamabad vehicles via Chakri Motorway.
Examinations Partially Postponed
The Controller of Examinations announced that papers scheduled at three examination centres located in the Red Zone — including G-6/4 and the Prime Minister Staff Colony in G-5 — have been postponed. The Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education confirmed that revised dates for these centres will be announced shortly, while all remaining examination centres across the city will continue as per the original schedule.
Authorities have urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and cooperate with law enforcement agencies during this critical period.
