Lahore: Leaders of the Pakistan Markazi Muslim League (PMML) have strongly condemned the assassination attempt on Tehreek Hurmat-e-Rasool Chairman Maulana Ameer Hamza, calling for the immediate arrest of those responsible and enhanced security measures for religious scholars.
In a joint statement, PMML President Khalid Masood Sindhu, Secretary General Saifullah Kasuri, Vice Presidents Hafiz Talha Saeed and Hafiz Abdul Rauf, Joint Secretary Muhammad Yaqoob Sheikh, Deputy Secretary General Khalid Niek Gujjar, Engineer Haris Dar, central spokesperson Dr. Muzammil Iqbal Hashmi, Chairman Khidmat-e-Khalq Chaudhry Shafeeq-ur-Rehman Waraich, and President Muslim Youth League Tabish Qayyum termed the attack a serious attempt to disrupt unity within the Muslim community.
The leaders stated that the broad daylight firing incident in Lahore reflects weaknesses in the law and order situation and raises concerns about the performance of the provincial government. They added that such incidents, at a time when Pakistan is striving for peace at the global level, indicate attempts by hostile elements to create instability within the country.
They further noted that Maulana Ameer Hamza has long played a significant role in promoting unity among different schools of thought and has worked to bring religious scholars onto one platform.
The PMML leaders urged the government to take immediate and decisive action against the attackers and to ensure effective protection for religious scholars to prevent similar incidents in the future.
