LAHORE: Provincial Minister for Housing and Urban Development Bilal Yaseen on the instructions of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif inaugurated a digital e-portal for Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Punjab aimed at ensuring timely resolution of public complaints.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Chairman Punjab WASA Chaudhry Sher Ali Khan, Parliamentary Secretary Barrister Sultan Bajwa, and Secretary Housing and Urban Development Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, among other officials.
Speaking at the event, Bilal Yaseen said that, for the first time in Punjab, digital monitoring of field operations across all districts has been introduced. He added that through the complaint management system and the 1334 helpline, citizens’ complaints would now be addressed more efficiently.
The minister further stated that the new system would allow monitoring of manhole geo-tagging and include an open manhole detection mechanism. In its initial phase, more than 3,000 open manholes have already been identified across the province.
Highlighting infrastructure measures, he said sewerage lines and disposal stations are being constructed on an emergency basis in 15 districts to improve drainage. He added that the provision of 937 modern machines and vehicles would help ensure timely drainage and resolution of routine issues.
Bilal Yaseen also noted that Maryam Nawaz Sharif has allocated unprecedented funds to tackle urban flooding risks in Punjab.
On the occasion, Noor-ul-Amin Mengal said that 3,000 water filtration plants would be installed in schools across Punjab to ensure the provision of clean drinking water. He added that these measures would help protect citizens from waterborne diseases and reduce the burden on hospitals, with the first phase expected to be completed within the current year.
Director General Punjab WASA Tayyab Fareed, Managing Director WASA Lahore, and other senior officials were also present at the ceremony.
