London — The House of Commons descended into disorder on Monday as two MPs were expelled from the chamber after publicly accusing Prime Minister Keir Starmer of lying. Lee Anderson of Reform UK and Zara Sultana of Your Party were both removed following heated exchanges during a debate over the dismissal of former British Ambassador to the United States, Lord Peter Mandelson.
Mandelson was removed from his post after his name appeared in documents released by the US Department of Justice linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
During the session, Anderson directly challenged the Prime Minister, stating that neither the public nor MPs believed him, and asked whether Starmer agreed he was lying. Speaker Lindsay Hoyle immediately called on Anderson to withdraw his remarks. Anderson refused and was ordered to leave the chamber.
Shortly afterwards, Sultana went further, labelling Starmer a “bare-faced liar” and accusing him of misleading the nation. When the Speaker ordered her to leave, she refused to comply. MPs subsequently voted in favour of a motion to suspend her from the House.
Following her suspension, Sultana remained defiant, taking to social media to reiterate her position. “Keir Starmer is a bare-faced liar and if he had any decency he would resign,” she posted on X.
The incidents have reignited debate over parliamentary language rules and the limits of free speech within the chamber.
