TEHRAN: Iran’s Supreme Court Chief Justice Gholam Hossein Mohseni Ejei issued a stern warning on Friday, declaring that while Iran remains committed to diplomacy, it will not hesitate to defend its sovereignty and national dignity if threatened — sending a clear message to Washington amid escalating tensions between the two nations.
Speaking to state media, Ejei emphasized that Iran had never walked away from the negotiating table with the United States and continued to welcome dialogue. However, he stressed that any such engagement must be grounded in logic, mutual respect, and reason — not coercion or ultimatums.
“We are not seeking war, but we are not afraid of it either,” Ejei said. “If our honor and dignity are threatened, we will fight for them. This is the firm and unwavering position of our nation.”
The Chief Justice also issued a pointed rebuke to what he described as adversarial pressure tactics, stating that an enemy which failed to achieve its objectives through aggression and threats has no right to impose demands at the negotiating table.
His remarks come as Iran and the United States remain locked in high-stakes diplomatic engagement over Tehran’s nuclear programme, with both sides maintaining hardline positions. Analysts view Ejei’s statement as a reflection of Iran’s dual-track strategy — keeping diplomatic channels open while projecting military resolve — as the Islamic Republic navigates an increasingly volatile regional and international landscape.
