LAHORE: President of the Pakistan Medical Association (Lahore), Professor Shahid Malik, has urged all Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners across Punjab to take immediate and effective action against stray and dangerous dogs.
In his statement, he said that under Clause 3 of the Local Government Act 2025, full legal authority has already been delegated to district administrations, and there are no longer any legal hurdles in taking action against stray dogs.
Professor Shahid Malik emphasized that in districts where the administration is failing to act, the Chief Secretary of the Government of Punjab should initiate strict disciplinary proceedings against the responsible officers.
Expressing serious concern, he highlighted that over the past year, approximately 225,000 people in Punjab have been victims of dog bites, while several individuals have lost their lives due to rabies, making the situation extremely alarming.
He further stated that the Pakistan Medical Association demands that the Government of Punjab immediately launch a comprehensive, effective, and province-wide campaign against stray dogs to ensure the protection of human lives.
He concluded by stressing that this critical public health issue can no longer be ignored, and urgent action is the need of the hour.
