RAWALPINDI — Police from Westridge Police Station have arrested an Indian national from the Chaur Chowk area under the jurisdiction of Rawalpindi, officials confirmed Monday.
The suspect identified himself as Daleer Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Sufi, a resident of India. According to the FIR, the individual was spotted heading toward Dhimyal when he turned back upon seeing police, raising suspicion and prompting officers to intercept him.
When asked to produce identity documents, the suspect was found carrying none. He voluntarily disclosed to police that he was an Indian national residing illegally in Pakistan. A search of the suspect yielded only two ballpoint pens and Rs. 1,750 in Pakistani currency.
A case has been registered on the complaint of police themselves, charging the accused with illegally entering Pakistan, taking up residence without authorisation, and committing a criminal offence under the relevant laws.
Further investigation is underway. The arrest comes amid heightened security sensitivity along the Pakistan-India border following recent regional tensions.
