ISLAMABAD — Pakistan’s Bureau of Statistics has reported a fresh uptick in weekly inflation, with the Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) rising by 0.79 percent during the past week, adding further pressure on the cost of living for ordinary citizens.
According to the latest official data:
22 essential commodities recorded a price increase
14 commodities saw a decrease in prices
15 commodities remained stable
The rise in prices of daily-use essential items continues to erode the purchasing power of middle and lower-income households across the country. Economic analysts attribute the persistent inflationary pressure to elevated energy costs, supply chain disruptions, and conditions tied to the ongoing IMF programme.
Despite government assurances of relief measures, ground realities suggest that the average Pakistani consumer continues to bear the brunt of economic adjustments. Experts warn that if the trend continues, monthly inflation figures could also reflect an upward movement in the coming weeks.
