Israeli authorities have claimed the killing of Izzedine al-Haddad, described as the most senior surviving member of Hamas’s military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades.
The Israeli Air Force struck an apartment in the Rimal neighbourhood of Gaza City in what officials called a targeted operation. Shortly after the strike, Israeli authorities confirmed al-Haddad’s death.
According to Palestinian sources, al-Haddad was the last surviving member of the Qassam Brigades’ five-member Supreme Council — a body formed following the deaths of Hamas military commanders Mohammad Deif, Yahya Sinwar, and Mohammad Sinwar.
Four additional individuals were killed when a vehicle near the apartment was simultaneously targeted in the strike.
As of publication, Hamas and the Qassam Brigades have not issued any official statement confirming or denying al-Haddad’s reported death.
