Within just one year, revolutionary administrative, academic, and clinical reforms have been successfully introduced at the , , and , producing rapid and highly visible positive results.
Addressing a joint meeting of senior professors and administrative doctors on the completion of his first year in office, Professor Dr. Farooq Afzal said that teamwork, dedication, and mutual harmony are the true foundations of institutional success. He stressed that healthcare professionals must always place patient care and public service above all other priorities.
Professor Farooq Afzal stated that the working environment had been significantly improved through the enforcement of merit, transparency, biometric attendance, and a strengthened monitoring and feedback system. He noted that the complete elimination of the “sifarish culture” through a strict zero-tolerance policy had greatly enhanced institutional discipline and professionalism.
He further highlighted that major improvements had been made in the installation of modern medical equipment, upgradation of clinical departments, timely provision of medicines and diagnostic facilities, and extension of OPD operational hours. Academic standards were also strengthened through faculty development programs, grand clinical lectures, mentorship initiatives, advanced workshops, and professional training sessions for nursing and allied health staff.
Among the landmark initiatives, the historic lecture theatres were renovated and named after renowned Muslim scientists Ibn-e-Sina, Al-Razi, and Al-Zahrawi. In addition, a modern Pain Management Clinic, water filtration plants, and green campus spaces were established to improve both healthcare delivery and the institutional environment.
Professor Farooq Afzal also announced that, in line with the Punjab Government’s health vision, Pakistan’s first Pediatric Stroke Center has been established at .
Reaffirming his commitment to quality healthcare, research, discipline, and the service of humanity, he expressed determination to further accelerate reforms and transform AMC, PGMI, and LGH into model medical and educational institutions at both national and international levels.
The meeting concluded with a cake-cutting ceremony attended by faculty members and administrative officials, who renewed their commitment to the continued progress of the institutions and the further improvement of patient care.
