Negotiations between Iran and the United States over a landmark diplomatic agreement have entered their final stages, with sources indicating consensus has been reached on key issues.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking from New Delhi, expressed hope for “good news” within hours. President Donald Trump confirmed that talks are progressing constructively, though he stated he has instructed his negotiators not to rush the process.
Key Terms of the Deal
According to Axios, under the proposed agreement Iran would open the Strait of Hormuz to international shipping free of any toll or tariff, limit uranium enrichment, and continue negotiations on broader restrictions to its nuclear programme.
In return, Washington would ease sanctions on Iranian ports, lift broader economic restrictions to allow Iran to freely sell oil on global markets, and may unfreeze billions in Iranian assets currently held abroad.
US officials indicated that the pace of sanctions relief would be directly tied to the speed at which Iran restores free navigation through the Strait of Hormuz. Analysts say the deal, if finalised, would not only provide a major economic boost to Iran but also bring much-needed stability to global oil markets.
