LAHORE: At least 12 people were killed and 1,386 others injured in 1,171 road traffic crashes reported across Punjab during the past 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department (ESD).
Rescue officials said that 628 critically injured victims were shifted to hospitals for medical treatment, while 758 people with minor injuries received first aid at the scene from Rescue medical teams, helping to reduce pressure on healthcare facilities.
Data released by the ESD showed that motorcycles were involved in 78 percent of the reported crashes, highlighting concerns over road safety and the need for stricter enforcement of traffic regulations and lane discipline.
The analysis found that 740 drivers, 57 underage drivers, 164 pedestrians and 494 passengers were among those affected in the accidents.
Lahore recorded the highest number of incidents, with 206 crashes affecting 259 people. The city was followed by Multan, where 73 crashes injured 81 people, and Faisalabad, which reported 72 crashes involving 80 victims.
Overall, 1,398 people were affected by road accidents, including 1,101 men and 297 women. Age-wise, 235 victims were below 18 years, 785 were between 18 and 40 years old, while 378 were above 40 years of age.
The report further indicated that 1,244 motorcycles, 78 auto-rickshaws, 142 cars, 28 vans, 13 passenger buses, 39 trucks and 54 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts, were involved in the reported crashes.
Rescue authorities urged road users to follow traffic laws, wear protective safety gear, and exercise greater caution to help reduce the rising number of road accidents in the province.
