Sheikh Walid Siam, a prominent imam of Al-Aqsa Mosque in occupied Jerusalem and a revered Palestinian religious leader, passed away on Thursday after a prolonged illness. He leaves behind a legacy of decades-long service to one of Islam’s holiest sites.
According to Palestinian religious sources, Sheikh Walid Siam had been battling illness for several years. Throughout his life, he devoted himself to leading prayers, providing Islamic education, and guiding worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque — a role that placed him among the most respected spiritual figures in the holy city of Jerusalem.
The news of his passing triggered an outpouring of grief across Palestine and among Muslim communities worldwide. Scholars, religious institutions, and civic leaders paid tribute to him, describing him as a humble, knowledgeable, and deeply devoted servant of Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Palestinian people.
Sheikh Siam’s death comes at a time when Al-Aqsa Mosque remains at the center of intense regional and global attention amid ongoing tensions over religious and political developments in the occupied city.
Details regarding his funeral prayers and burial arrangements are expected to be announced by Palestinian religious authorities shortly. In the meantime, prayer gatherings have been held in Jerusalem and across the Muslim world in his memory.
Muslims around the world have prayed for Allah’s mercy upon him and that his lifelong services to Al-Aqsa Mosque and the Muslim Ummah be accepted as a continuous act of charity — Sadaqah Jariyah.
Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilayhi Raji’un.
