A deadly armed assault in Rawalakot, Azad Kashmir has left 4 law enforcement personnel martyred and over 20 police and security officials wounded, after militants linked to a proscribed Action Committee opened fire on duty officers in what authorities are calling a premeditated act of terrorism.
The Inspector General (IG) of Police, Azad Jammu & Kashmir, strongly condemned the attack, stating that armed elements gathered under the guise of protest and deliberately targeted on-duty law enforcement personnel. He confirmed that the wounds sustained by the martyred and injured officers were of firearm and gunshot nature.
The IG categorically rejected any characterisation of the incident as peaceful political protest, describing it instead as “a organised, armed terrorist operation” targeting state authority, public order, and critically — the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) Rawalakot — endangering patients, medical staff, and wounded personnel.
“No armed group will be allowed to hold the peace of Azad Kashmir, the safety of its citizens, and the writ of the state hostage,” said the IG, adding that the legal consequences of this attack would be inevitable, evidence-based, and in full accordance with the Constitution and law.
Azad Kashmir Police and administration have vowed that there will be no compromise on state authority, public peace, and the protection of citizens.
