LAHORE, Pakistan: Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Monday inaugurated a newly established Prison Block at Services Hospital Lahore, aimed at providing improved healthcare services to inmates in a secure environment.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Inspector General of Prisons Mian Farooq Nazir, Principal of Services Institute of Medical Sciences Prof. Dr. Zohra Khanum, Medical Superintendent of Services Hospital Dr. Rana Khurram Aftab, and other senior officials and faculty members.
During his visit, the minister reviewed the modern medical facilities and security arrangements established for prisoners receiving treatment at the hospital.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said the Punjab government is committed to ensuring quality and timely healthcare services for all citizens without discrimination.
“Prisoners are also part of society, and it is the responsibility of the state to provide them with better medical facilities,” he said. “The establishment of this modern prison block at Services Hospital will enable inmates to receive quality medical treatment in a safe and secure environment.”
The minister noted that the project would not only enhance healthcare services for prisoners but also strengthen security measures during their treatment and hospitalization.
Highlighting the government’s healthcare agenda, Rafique said that under the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, the Health Department is continuously working to improve medical facilities, upgrade hospital infrastructure, and enhance patient care across the province.
He added that a series of healthcare reforms and modernization initiatives would continue to further improve treatment standards in public hospitals and ensure the provision of the best possible facilities to patients.
