LAHORE: The Punjab Government has extended the ban on the operation of drones in open-air spaces across the province for another 30 days under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), 1898, citing security concerns and the need to maintain public safety and law and order.
According to a notification issued by the Punjab Home Department, the restriction will remain in force throughout the province to safeguard sensitive installations, protect lives and property, and maintain public order.
A spokesperson for the Punjab Home Department said the decision was taken in light of prevailing security concerns. However, the limited use of small drones will be permitted inside halls and marquees during events, with organizers held fully responsible for ensuring their safe and lawful operation.
The notification exempts intelligence agencies and law enforcement agencies from the restrictions, allowing them to use drones for official duties.
The spokesperson said the Punjab Government continues to prioritize the protection of life and property, public safety, and the security of sensitive locations. Exercising powers under Section 144(6) of the CrPC, 1898, the Secretary Home Punjab ordered the continuation of the ban on outdoor drone operations.
The Punjab Home Department has directed all district administrations and police authorities across the province to strictly enforce the order and take legal action against anyone found violating the restrictions.
