Lahore: Renowned poet Hussain Majroh hosted a tea reception in honor of the delegation of the Pakistan Media Writers Club at his guest house, Saiban, located in Westwood Society, Raiwind Road, Thokar Niaz Baig, Lahore.
The delegation, led by Chairman Iftikhar Khan, included senior journalist Fazal Hussain Awan, General Secretary Nabila Akbar, Muhammad Shoaib Mirza, Dr. Fazal Bano, Farzana Chaudhry, Asim Latif Chaudhry, Syed Badar Saeed, Asad Naqvi, Muhammad Shahzad, Muhammad Shahid Hanif, Dr. Areeba, Hamid Ali, Ammar Khan, and other distinguished members.
During the gathering, participants engaged in an insightful discussion on the topic, “The Gap Between Pak Tea House and Lahore Press Club.” The conversation focused on the relationship between journalists and literary writers, highlighting that although both communities are united by the power of the pen, a noticeable divide continues to exist.
Speakers observed that literary writers often do not recognize journalists as fellow writers, believing that literature enjoys a higher and more enduring status. While literary works may live on for generations, journalism is often regarded as having a short-lived impact. However, participants pointed out that legendary journalists such as Majid Nizami and Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Shami have made lasting contributions that continue to influence society.
Another important issue discussed was the distinction made within journalistic circles, where reporters and news correspondents are often regarded as “true journalists,” while columnists and feature writers receive less recognition. Similarly, many journalists who have authored numerous books and made valuable literary contributions are still not fully accepted within literary circles as writers.
Participants agreed that this divide between journalism and literature deserves serious consideration and further dialogue. Due to time constraints, the discussion remained incomplete, with members expressing hope that future sessions would continue exploring the subject.
A significant announcement was made by Hussain Majroh, who offered free accommodation at Saiban Guest House for journalists visiting Lahore from other cities. Participants appreciated this generous initiative, describing it as a meaningful step toward strengthening ties between journalists and literary writers and promoting mutual respect and cooperation.
At the conclusion of the event, Hussain Majroh presented copies of the monthly literary magazine “Saiban” to the delegation members and gave them a tour of the guest house. A well-organized high tea was served, followed by a group photo session featuring Chairman Iftikhar Khan, host Hussain Majroh, and members of the Pakistan Media Writers Club delegation.
