LAHORE: At least nine people were killed and 1,715 others injured in 1,475 road traffic crashes reported across Punjab during the last 24 hours, according to the Emergency Services Department (Rescue 1122).
The Emergency Services Department (ESD) responded to road traffic accidents in all 37 districts of the province. Of the 1,715 injured, 777 people with serious injuries were shifted to hospitals, while 938 victims with minor injuries received on-site medical treatment from Rescue Medical Teams, reducing the burden on healthcare facilities.
According to the department, motorcycles were involved in nearly 80 percent of all road traffic crashes, highlighting the urgent need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and improved lane discipline to reduce accidents.
The data further revealed that the victims included 1,030 drivers, 69 underage drivers, 157 pedestrians, and 537 passengers.
Lahore recorded the highest number of road traffic crashes, with 284 accidents affecting 357 people. Multan ranked second with 92 crashes and 96 victims, followed by Faisalabad, where 82 crashes left 91 people affected.
Overall, 1,724 victims were involved in the reported crashes, including 1,408 men and 316 women. Among them, 371 were under the age of 18, while 873 were between 18 and 40 years old. The remaining 480 victims were above 40 years of age.
The accidents involved 1,622 motorcycles, 108 auto-rickshaws, 167 cars, 30 vans, 14 passenger buses, 62 trucks, and 75 other vehicles, including slow-moving carts.
Rescue 1122 urged motorists to follow traffic regulations, wear protective safety gear, observe speed limits, and maintain lane discipline to help reduce the growing number of road traffic accidents across the province.
