ISLAMABAD — Report by Muhammad Saleem
Pakistan’s military spokesperson, Lieutenant General Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said Tuesday that security forces killed 54 militants in Balochistan over a four-day period, while 42 personnel were killed defending the country during three major terrorist incidents.
Briefing reporters on the security situation in the restive southwestern province, DG ISPR said the first incident occurred overnight between July 4 and 5 in Hanna Urak, where local residents fought back against militants, resulting in the deaths of four civilians and injuries to six others.
The deadliest attack took place on July 6 near a police checkpoint at the Mangi Dam pumping station, where militants took police officers hostage before security forces closed in. As the siege tightened, the attackers killed 18 police personnel. In total, 27 police officers were martyred and 26 militants were killed in that operation, according to the ISPR chief.
A third attack occurred in Bela, where militants from the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) ambushed a military convoy, killing one junior commissioned officer and ten soldiers; 14 militants were killed in the ensuing clash. Separate operations in Kharan and Dalbandin killed six and eight militants, respectively.
DG ISPR alleged that India is involved in terrorist activities inside Pakistan, claiming these operations are being carried out in coordination with the Afghan Taliban regime — an allegation both governments have previously denied. He said security forces would continue operations against militants and their facilitators until they are eliminated.
