The residence of Mir Shafiq-ur-Rehman Mengal, a Pakistan Peoples Party leader and prominent tribal figure, came under a suicide and armed terrorist attack on Wednesday in Khuzdar, Balochistan, leaving 14 people dead, including 5 police personnel. Security forces killed all five attackers in the ensuing operation.
Mir Shafiq-ur-Rehman Mengal survived the attack unharmed, though several people were injured. According to police and security sources, the attack was carried out in a highly coordinated manner.
The assault began when a suicide bomber blew himself up at the main gate of the residence, destroying the entry point. Immediately afterward, the remaining suicide and armed attackers forced their way inside and opened indiscriminate fire.
Sources said an intense exchange of fire between security personnel and the attackers continued for nearly three hours, after which security forces killed all five attackers, bringing the operation to an end.
