ISLAMABAD —M.Saleem
US military aircraft have arrived in Pakistan carrying relief supplies for victims of severe floods, landing at Rawalpindi’s Nur Khan Airbase. Pakistani military officials and US Charge d’Affaires Netley Baker were present to receive the aid.
According to the US embassy, Baker expressed condolences for the losses caused by the floods and extended sympathies to the affected communities. The aid, delivered through the US Army Central Command, includes tents, water purification pumps, generators, and other essential supplies. It will be distributed via Pakistan Army flood relief camps.
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said six flights carrying US aid are expected in total. Pakistan has faced severe flooding due to heavy rains and water releases from Indian dams, affecting millions, submerging homes, destroying crops, and displacing large populations.
Authorities are continuing relief operations, but the scale of the disaster has prompted international support, including from the United Nations, the UK, and now the United States. In Sindh alone, over 1.6 million people are estimated to be affected, with the potential for the situation to worsen if floodwaters rise further.
