Riyadh, July 28 — Yemen’s Houthi-led Ansar Allah movement has claimed responsibility for an attack on Saudi Arabia’s crude oil transport infrastructure. According to Reuters, a spokesperson for the group said facilities related to crude oil supply and transport in the Saudi city of Yanbu were targeted. The spokesperson said the strike was carried out in response to alleged violations of Yemeni airspace by Saudi drones.
Separately, a phone call took place between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the British Prime Minister, during which the two leaders discussed bilateral matters. The UK side condemned the Houthi attacks and voiced concern over threats to shipping in the Red Sea, while reaffirming British support for Saudi Arabia’s security and sovereignty.
Shipping data firm Kepler reported that only 11 commercial vessels passed through the Bab al-Mandab Strait on Sunday amid the escalation — the lowest single-day figure in several months. Bab al-Mandab is the world’s fourth-busiest maritime chokepoint, carrying roughly 10% of global oil and gas supply.
