Officials said the unrest began in Sunsari district of Koshi province after disputes over loudspeaker use and display of religious flags during separate gatherings, later spreading to parts of Madhesh province. Prime Minister Balendra (Balen) Shah urged citizens to maintain peace and harmony, ordered impartial investigations and pledged action against those responsible.
