Dubai — The United Arab Emirates government has officially announced a public holiday to mark Eid Milad-un-Nabi, the birthday of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). According to the UAE’s official state media office, Friday, August 28, 2026, will be a paid holiday for both federal government and private sector employees.
Since the holiday falls on a Friday, employees at organizations that observe Saturday and Sunday as their regular weekly off will get a three-day break from Friday, August 28 to Sunday, August 30, resuming work on Monday, August 31.
Eid Milad-un-Nabi is observed on the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal, the third month of the Islamic lunar calendar, and is marked by Muslims worldwide through religious gatherings, Quran recitations and sermons reflecting on the Prophet’s life and teachings. As the Islamic calendar follows a lunar cycle, the date of the observance shifts each year relative to the Gregorian calendar.
