UN: Aid Entering Gaza Rises by 33%, but Major Restrictions Remain

New York: The United Nations said humanitarian supplies entering Gaza increased by 33 percent in July compared with June, but major restrictions on access and the types of goods allowed to enter remain in place. The UN warned that humanitarian needs across the territory remain extremely high.
UN deputy spokesperson Farhan Haq told reporters that the United Nations and its partners managed to bring more than 55,000 pallets of aid into Gaza during July. The shipments amounted to approximately 35,000 metric tons, equivalent to around 2,600 truckloads—bringing deliveries close to levels recorded before regional tensions escalated at the end of February.
According to Haq, about 60 percent of the supplies consisted of food. The remaining aid included shelter materials, water and sanitation equipment, hygiene supplies and medical items.
Haq cautioned, however, that humanitarian partners continued to report restrictions on the categories of goods permitted to enter Gaza. The UN said that although deliveries had increased, the available assistance remained insufficient to meet the territory’s extensive humanitarian needs.
Damage Reported in West Bank Camp
The UN also raised concerns about the humanitarian situation in the occupied West Bank. UN agencies and humanitarian partners visited the Qalandia camp near Jerusalem following a two-day Israeli military operation.
Haq said the teams found extensive damage to homes and businesses. Dozens of families reported damage to doors, windows and furniture, while many residents also described significant financial losses.
Palestinian officials say Israeli military and settler attacks in the occupied West Bank have intensified since Israel began its war in Gaza in October 2023. According to Palestinian figures, at least 1,182 Palestinians have been killed, around 13,000 injured and approximately 25,000 detained during the period.
