Rs 9.5 Million Donation Establishes Modern Emergency Dialysis Unit at LGH

LAHORE, August 25: Philanthropists have demonstrated their commitment to serving humanity by donating four modern dialysis machines and two reverse osmosis (RO) plants for emergency dialysis of kidney patients at Lahore General Hospital (LGH).
Principal Postgraduate Medical Institute (PGMI) Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal inaugurated the newly installed machines and facilities. Speaking on the occasion, he said Pakistan was blessed with compassionate people who consistently came forward to support patients and serve suffering humanity.
He said the new emergency dialysis facility would help protect patients from medical complications and save them from the hardship of prolonged waiting for dialysis.
MS LGH Dr. Faryad Hussain said that under the Chief Minister Punjab’s Health Vision Programme, more than 18,000 patients received completely free dialysis at LGH last year.
Prof. Dr. Ibad-ur-Rehman said philanthropists had contributed Rs. 9.5 million toward upgrading the dialysis unit, providing emergency dialysis machines and improving other facilities. He added that the Punjab government had also provided three modern HDF dialysis machines.
He said all dialysis procedures were being conducted in accordance with the Punjab Healthcare Commission’s SOPs. Separate machines, dedicated pathways and specific doors had been arranged for hepatitis patients to minimise the risk of infection.
A state-of-the-art classroom equipped with a digital library and multimedia facilities has also been established for the education and training of healthcare professionals. An air-conditioned waiting area has additionally been provided for the convenience of patients’ attendants.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by MS Dr. Faryad Hussain, Prof. Dr. Ibad-ur-Rehman, Prof. Dr. Farah Shafique, Prof. Dr. Nudrat Sohail, Prof. Dr. Muhammad Shahid, Prof. Dr. Jodat Saleem, Prof. Dr. Khurram Saleem, Prof. Dr. Hassan Suleman Malik, Dr. Yasir Hussain, Dr. Roshina Anjum, Dr. Sajid Iqbal, Dr. Asia Noor, Dr. Qurat-ul-Ain, Dr. Abdul Aziz and other senior doctors.
Principal Amiruddin Medical College Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal appreciated the round-the-clock efforts of the Nephrology Department, led by HoD Prof. Dr. Ibad-ur-Rehman, and his team. He termed the modernisation of the dialysis centre and its continuous service to humanity a highly commendable initiative.
Prof. Dr. Farooq Afzal directed the hospital administration to display prominent banners across the hospital to create awareness about the Chief Minister Punjab’s Dialysis Free Programme, enabling more deserving patients to benefit from the free treatment facility.
He also specially appreciated DMS Dr. Asia Noor for maintaining an excellent record of free dialysis services during the previous year and acknowledged her professional competence.
