LAHORE: The Pakistan Medical Association (PMA) Lahore has expressed deep concern and regret over the reported deaths of 15 newborns at PIMS Hospital and has called an emergency meeting on Thursday to review the circumstances surrounding the incident, including medical arrangements, available facilities and possible responsibilities.

PMA Lahore General Secretary Dr. Wajid Ali said the deaths of newborns were an extremely sensitive and alarming matter that required a transparent, impartial and comprehensive investigation.

He said all facts must be brought before the public and, if negligence or administrative lapses were established at any level, those responsible should be identified and held accountable.

Dr. Wajid Ali said PMA Lahore would continue to play its role in protecting the rights of the medical community and the public while advocating for safe and quality healthcare facilities. He stressed, however, that no final opinion should be formed about the incident until complete facts and expert assessments were available.

He further emphasized the need to ensure properly equipped neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), trained medical and nursing staff, essential medicines and equipment, as well as effective infection-control systems for the care of newborns.

Following the emergency meeting, PMA Lahore will hold a press conference to brief the media on its position regarding the incident, its demands and its future course of action.
