KOHAT — At least 21 people, including 16 police personnel, were martyred and 78 others injured in a terrorist attack on the Police Lines in Kohat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, during Friday prayers.
According to police sources, the attack occurred while worshippers were performing Friday prayers at the mosque inside the Police Lines compound. Seven militants breached the facility, with one detonating an explosives-laden vehicle at the gate of the old Police Lines, triggering a powerful blast. A separate suicide bombing also struck the Special Branch building within the premises.
The explosions were accompanied by intense exchanges of gunfire between the attackers and security forces. The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals, where an emergency was declared to manage the influx of casualties.
KP Police said the area has been cordoned off and a clearance operation is underway. No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attack. Authorities have indicated that further details will be released as the situation develops.
