Rahim Yar Khan, Pakistan — The death toll from a boat accident in Punjab’s Rahim Yar Khan district has risen to nine after three more bodies were recovered, local officials confirmed on Wednesday.
The victims have been identified as 22-year-old Zakiya Bibi, 25-year-old Rafia Bibi, and 45-year-old Muhammad Hassan. All belonged to the same family of 25 people who were being relocated to safer areas on September 9 when their boat capsized near Mouza Noorwala.
Rescue workers managed to save 14 passengers during an immediate operation, while a search effort continued for the missing.
The incident highlights the risks faced by families displaced by monsoon rains and flooding in riverine regions of Pakistan.
