Tel Aviv,
A classified US intelligence report has warned that political, economic and social divisions in Israel are deepening, with anger mounting against the government, and that these factors could expose the country to the risk of civil war or even the collapse of the state, according to an investigative report.
Independent investigative outlet Drop Site News, citing two US sources familiar with the document, said the analysis, titled “Internal Fracture,” was prepared in August by the CIA’s Red Cell. It is a specialist unit mandated to challenge conventional intelligence consensus and offer alternative strategic perspectives.
The assessment paints a highly unstable picture of the internal pressures facing the country ahead of the October 27 parliamentary elections. Key flashpoints include a severe economic downturn, sharply rising defense spending, growing settler violence in the occupied West Bank, and intense public anger over the exemption of ultra-Orthodox men from compulsory military service.
The report identifies Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s fight to stay in power as a core driver of constitutional and political instability. Years of genocide in Gaza and continuing wars in Lebanon and Iran have deepened existing social divisions, and many reservists returning after prolonged deployments are suffering severe psychological trauma. Military recruitment has become one of the country’s most serious internal weaknesses, as repeated reservist call-ups have fueled public resentment over the blanket exemption kept in place for the ultra-Orthodox community.
Adding to these domestic pressures, the CIA document warns that growing international diplomatic isolation, symbolized by declining support within the United States, risks accelerating internal instability.
