Gaza City — Israel intensified its ongoing military campaign in Gaza on Wednesday by demolishing another multi-story building in the heart of Gaza City, according to local and international reports.
The strike is part of Israel’s broader offensive that has already flattened dozens of high-rise buildings, leaving thousands of Palestinians homeless and without shelter. Footage released by international news agency AFP showed a tall tower in Gaza engulfed in smoke after being struck.
An Arabic-language spokesperson for the Israeli military said an evacuation order had been issued before the strike, calling on Palestinians sheltering inside the Tibi Two Tower to leave. The army later claimed the building had been used by Hamas militants.
Observers note that the Israeli military has frequently issued similar justifications after targeting residential towers and refugee camps across Gaza, where civilian casualties have mounted.
Images released by AFP captured massive plumes of smoke rising from the destroyed structure, located in the western part of Gaza City’s central district. Following the strike, Palestinians were seen searching through rubble for personal belongings that might have survived the destruction.
The United Nations last month warned of “catastrophic devastation” in Gaza, stressing that the war has created an unprecedented humanitarian crisis, displacing hundreds of thousands of people repeatedly as Israeli forces continue to besiege Gaza City.
