RAWALPINDI — Inter-Services Public Relations Director General Lt Gen Ahmed Sharif Chaudhry told Reuters that India is the biggest sponsor of terrorism in Pakistan, while Afghanistan’s Taliban regime is effectively operating as an Indian proxy. He also alleged that the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA) are acting as Indian proxies against Pakistan.
The military spokesperson alleged that the Afghan Taliban use non-state actors and mercenaries for their objectives and that Afghanistan remains under the influence of non-state elements. He claimed the Taliban authorities shelter wanted militant commanders including Noor Wali Mehsud, Bashir Zeb and Gul Bahadur, and that militants cross from Afghan territory to carry out attacks in Pakistan.
He said various intelligence agencies and proxy networks strengthened their presence after Russia’s intervention in Afghanistan, while banned groups including Jeish al-Adl, al-Qaeda and Islamic State Khorasan Province also operate there — a presence identified by the United Nations, the United States and other countries.
The DG ISPR warned that the Afghan Taliban would pay a “heavy price” if they did not stop supporting terrorism in Pakistan. He said Islamabad does not seek to isolate Afghanistan but expects Kabul to end harbouring and support for militants targeting Pakistan.
