Islamabad – The Islamabad High Court has suspended Justice Tariq Mahmood Jahangiri from judicial work pending a decision by the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) on complaints against him.
The two-member bench, led by Chief Justice Sarfraz Dogar and Justice Azam Khan, ruled that Justice Jahangiri will not perform judicial functions until the SJC issues its verdict. The court cited “sensitive questions,” including the judge’s eligibility.
The case has been adjourned to October 21. A new court roster excludes Justice Jahangiri, elevating Justice Saman Riffat to third in seniority.
Justice Jahangiri was among five judges who challenged Chief Justice Dogar’s transfer and previously raised concerns over alleged intelligence interference in judicial matters. The suspension comes as he was hearing petitions on alleged electoral rigging in Islamabad constituencies.
