Harare — Zimbabwe’s popular drama group Naiza Boom has suspended production after actress Svinurai, widely known as Tete VekuMasvingo, collapsed during the filming of a skit.
What began as a routine shoot quickly turned into a medical emergency when the actress lost consciousness on set. “We thought she had fainted,” the group said, “but doctors told us she had blacked out completely and was unresponsive.”
Her condition remains serious, with cast members describing her inability to open her eyes or speak. The emotional toll has been heavy on the group, which is known for its high-energy skits reflecting Zimbabwean society.
Svinurai’s family has since removed her from hospital care and turned to traditional healers, a decision that has sparked debate online. Supporters of the actress have flooded social media with messages of prayer and solidarity.
“Seeing her like this has been heartbreaking for all of us,” said one cast member. “Until she’s back, things won’t feel right.”
Naiza Boom, one of Zimbabwe’s most beloved online drama groups, has credited Svinurai with being central to its growth and success.
