Makkah: Sheikh Dr. Saleh bin Humaid, Imam of the Grand Mosque in Makkah, has been appointed as the new Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia, following the death of Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh.
According to a royal decree, Sheikh bin Humaid — born in 1949 in Buraidah — graduated in Islamic jurisprudence from the Islamic University of Makkah. He also served as the Speaker of the Shura Council between 2002 and 2009.
The Saudi Royal Court confirmed the passing of Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah Al-Sheikh earlier this week, paving the way for the appointment of Sheikh bin Humaid as the Kingdom’s highest religious authority.
