Islamabad: A parliamentary delegation from the Federal Republic of Nepal called on Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Syed Ghulam Mustafa Shah, at the Parliament House to discuss bilateral cooperation and extend solidarity in the wake of recent floods in Pakistan.
Deputy Speaker Shah welcomed the delegation and emphasized the importance Pakistan attaches to its longstanding ties with Nepal. He highlighted the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening bilateral relations and informed the visitors about the Pakistan-Nepal Friendship Group, which is actively promoting cooperation and exchanges between the two legislatures.
He further underlined the potential for collaboration in tourism and other economic sectors, while also briefing the delegation on the activities of the Women Parliamentary Caucus in Pakistan, which works for women’s empowerment, rights, and welfare. Referring to regional challenges, Shah noted that climate change is a major threat, pointing out that Pakistan has repeatedly suffered devastating human and economic losses due to climate-induced disasters since 2022.
The Nepalese parliamentarians expressed their condolences over the loss of lives and infrastructure in Pakistan caused by recent cloudbursts and floods. They also congratulated Pakistan on its 78th Independence Day, reaffirming that Nepal greatly values its friendly relations with Pakistan and stressing the importance of people-to-people linkages in strengthening bilateral ties.
The delegation, comprising Members Ms. Nagina Yadav, Ms. Bhagabati Neupane, Ms. Puja Chaudhary, and Ms. Gaura Nepali, thanked the Deputy Speaker for the warm reception.
Also present at the meeting were Country Director of Friedrich-Ebert-Stiftung (FES) Pakistan, Mr. Felix Kolbitz, along with FES officials Ms. Natalia Figge and Ms. Pabitra Raut.
