Authorities in Pakistan have decided to launch a crackdown against illegally residing foreigners in the federal capital and four adjoining districts in a bid to declare them “safe zones.”
The decision was taken during a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Commissioner Islamabad, Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Deputy Commissioners of Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Murree, and Haripur have been tasked with implementing the plan.
According to officials, a comprehensive database of undocumented foreign nationals will be prepared, including their residence and identification details. Restrictions will also be imposed to prevent the issuance of mobile SIM cards, financial transactions, and property purchases through stamp papers for those residing illegally.
The strategy also includes data-sharing with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA). Action will be taken against foreigners staying in homes or hotels without proper registration.
Authorities underscored that foreign nationals will only be allowed to reside in Pakistan with valid visas; otherwise, strict legal action will follow. The plan also aims to prevent the re-settlement of undocumented foreigners in the future.
