The Pakistani city of Sialkot has witnessed its heaviest rainfall in more than a decade, breaking an 11-year record as over 355 millimeters of rain fell within 24 hours, local officials confirmed on Tuesday.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, torrential rains have inundated several parts of the city, including Rangpura, Shahabpura, Dara Araiyan, Allama Iqbal Chowk, and Prem Nagar. Meteorological authorities warned that heavy showers could persist for another two to four hours.
The deluge has triggered severe flooding in Nullah Dek, where water flow surged to 77,000 cusecs, submerging multiple villages. Authorities have launched rescue operations, relocating residents from the worst-hit areas to safer locations.
Meanwhile, the Chenab River has swelled to “very high flood” levels, with water discharge recorded at 365,000 cusecs. The Ravi River is also experiencing high flood levels, with 210,000 cusecs at Kot Naina and 142,020 cusecs at Jassar.
Officials confirmed that a powerful flood wave is currently passing through the Ravi River. Rescue teams reported that at least 257 people, including families from Kartarpur and adjoining villages, have so far been evacuated.
