Samarkand, Uzbekistan – King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan conferred the country’s highest honor, the Order of Al Nahda (Renaissance), on Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during a landmark state visit to Samarkand.
The visit marked the first-ever high-level exchange between the two nations and set a new stage for comprehensive bilateral cooperation. President Mirziyoyev and King Abdullah II held extensive talks at the Samarkand Congress Center, focusing on strengthening political dialogue, trade and investment ties, cultural exchanges, and collaboration in international forums such as the UN and the OIC.
Both sides signed 15 bilateral agreements, including on visa abolition, extradition, investment protection, higher education, agriculture, tourism, plant protection, veterinary medicine, and air transport. A joint statement on strengthening partnership relations was also adopted.
Plans were announced to establish an Intergovernmental Commission, a Business Council, and hold the first Uzbek-Jordanian Business Forum by year’s end. Both leaders emphasized the need to increase trade volumes, expand cooperation in industries such as textiles, chemicals, healthcare, and smart agriculture, and boost people-to-people exchanges through cultural weeks, exhibitions, and direct flights.
President Mirziyoyev praised King Abdullah II’s “Aqaba Process” initiative on global security and proposed hosting a session of the forum in Samarkand. He also stressed the importance of promoting tolerant and enlightened Islam in cooperation between the two countries.
Accepting the Order of Al Nahda, President Mirziyoyev said it symbolized “friendship and respect for the people of Uzbekistan, who are laying the foundations for the Third Renaissance.”
The historic visit concluded with King Abdullah II extending an invitation for President Mirziyoyev to pay a return visit to Jordan.
