Federal Minister for Human Rights, Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar, addressing the closing session of the National Consultation on Pakistan’s Gender Parity Framework, appreciated the collective efforts of provinces, regions, development partners, civil society, and academia in reaching a consensus on a uniform reporting mechanism for Gender Parity Reporting (GPR). The consultation was organized under the National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW).
During the two-day meeting, provinces and regions presented their indicators and reports, reflecting their capacity and commitment. This exercise provided stakeholders the opportunity to improve evidence-based reporting mechanisms at the provincial level, enriched by the valuable input of experts, academia, and civil society.
The Minister stated, “This consultation has not merely brought diverse voices together but has also aligned them towards a common purpose. Today, we are laying the foundation of a framework that has the potential to become a more effective, comparable, and nationally recognized standard for gender parity in Pakistan.”
He emphasized that the National Gender Parity Framework is not just a compilation of aspirations or checklists but a robust reporting mechanism ensuring comparability across provinces and over time. “International statistics often reflect Pakistan in a weak position due to existing gaps in data collection and reporting. Through this framework, we will provide accurate and reliable data that truly highlights Pakistan’s progress,” he added.
Senator Tarar further noted that this initiative not only fulfills a constitutional responsibility but also advances Pakistan’s international commitments, while strengthening policymaking to bridge gender gaps in education, health, employment, and leadership.
Reaffirming the Prime Minister’s commitment to advancing women’s rights and ensuring equal participation in all spheres of life, the Minister assured that the Ministry of Human Rights would provide full support to integrate this framework into laws, policies, and institutional structures. “With unity and a shared vision, the National Gender Parity Framework can become a milestone that bridges gender gaps and builds a future where equality is not just a promise but a lived reality,” he concluded.
