Islamabad (International Desk) – Human rights organization Amnesty International has alleged that Pakistani authorities are carrying out large-scale illegal surveillance of citizens. According to the report, a sophisticated internet firewall and telecommunication system are being used to monitor phone calls and online activities across the country.
Amnesty claims that Pakistani agencies have the capacity to simultaneously monitor around 4 million mobile phones, raising serious concerns about privacy, freedom of expression, and civil liberties. The report warns that such practices not only violate fundamental human rights but also risk damaging Pakistan’s democratic image internationally.
The organization has urged the Government of Pakistan to immediately halt unlawful surveillance measures and to establish laws that guarantee the protection of citizens’ privacy both online and offline.
