Ryan Reynolds is starring in a new ad with Tilly Norwood.
No, not the AI-generated Tilly Norwood, the real Tilly Norwood, an actual Mint Mobile customer named Natalie “Tilly” Norwood, who Reynolds roped in to star in a new ad campaign to launch his wireless company’s new home internet offering, Minternet.
“Everything about Mint Mobile seems unreal, and now we’re introducing 5G home internet for $30 a month. Yes, that’s real,” Reynolds says in the ad. “That’s why we invited Tilly Norwood, a real Mint customer, to help us announce it. You are real, right?”
“Yep,” Norwood replied.
“Not an AI-generated combination of actors?” Reynolds continued.
“I’m a combination of my parents,” Norwood responded.
“And the Minternet is real too, right?” Reynolds added, sparking a “yes” from Norwood.
Reynolds is something of a marketing guru, via his firm Maximum Effort, which he re-acquired from MNTN earlier this year. The firm is well-known for producing quick-turnaround ads that touch on topics in popular culture. Earlier this summer, for example, Reynolds hired the actual former CFO of Costco to serve as Mint Mobile’s “chief anti-inflation officer” for a spot that ran during the Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating contest.
Reynolds, one of the most prolific multihyphenates in entertainment, also co-founded Mint, which sold to T-Mobile last year in a billion-dollar deal.
Sure enough, his new ad features Reynolds’ signature brand of humor, even in the ad disclosures.
“Offer available for real people only,” text onscreen reads, as a voiceover declares that “participation limited to verified carbon based organisms, and excludes algorithms, synthetic consciousnesses, virtual influencers and any AI amalgamations of any kind.”
“Mint has brought millions of people relief from big wireless bills while still delivering premium wireless service,” said Reynolds in a statement. “Today we’re bringing that same energy home. Literally. This is not a metaphor. We literally deliver it to your home. Like it shows up and you turn it on and you start getting 5G home internet and saving money.”
